If you want to write in the English language and be successful at it, then you are going to need some guidance and support. This language can be very difficult for traditional English speakers, so when one comes to the language from another culture, it can be especially complicated. But where do you go to get the help that you need, and what are some of the most helpful tips to ensure your success? Learning what these are can make all the difference in the world when it comes to succeeding in business and building personal relationships. So as you set out on your language journey, keep the following writing tips in mind:

Vocabulary

Spelling and vocabulary is very important when learning English. With improper spelling, you not only give away that you're an amateur, but you could also be spelling a different word by accident, thus amping up the confusion. For instance, the word "dear" is used to open a letter of importance. It addresses the recipient. A "deer," however, is an animal. Saying something like "I ran over the dear," could make people think that you hit a person with your car instead of an animal.

Parts of Speech

The parts of speech are the key categories for each individual word. Things like nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, prepositions, and interjections, are all considered parts of speech. Words that fall within these types of categories are the building blocks of a sentence. You will need to attain mastery of these parts of speech in order to use them effectively in writing.

Keep It Simple

In the beginning, you should learn the formatting structure of simple English sentences. Focus on getting the subject and verb placement where they need to be. You may even consider taking some courses on how to diagram just so you can become familiar with the parts of speech and how they are used in this particular form of writing. Once you have succeeded at capturing the essence of the simple sentence, only then should you move on to compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. The compound sentence is just two simple sentences linked by conjunction. A complex sentence usually consists of a complete and incomplete clause linked together to form a complete thought. A compound-complex sentence will present two or more complete clauses, linking them together with one or more dependent clauses. Basic English writing skills generally shy away from this last form of sentence for the sake of simplicity.

English is a complicated language, where many things can go wrong during the writing process. It's important to study as much as you can and simplify the process for yourself in order to attain success and keep from getting frustrated.
